Noel Kempff Park has tremendous biological value, first because it is a large area that houses a very significant number of large animals as well as plants that can only be found there and nowhere else in Bolivia or the world. On the other hand, it is a transition zone between the dry forest of Chiquitano and the Amazon, making it a very important corridor between two large eco-regions.

Inside the park, the visitor can carry out a wide variety of activities: trekking or hiking on trails, camping, observation of flora and fauna, scientific research, bathing in natural pools, visiting communities, canoeing, horseback riding, rock climbing, observation of birds, filming and photography, return fishing, visit to archaeological sites, and rappelling. But of all these activities, two stand out above the rest: the observation of flora and fauna and the visit to the falls.

To observe the falls, the best season to visit is in the rainy season, between January and April or May. On the contrary, if what you want is to observe animals, you have to go when the waters are low, since there are more possibilities to spot large animals on the beaches, so the ideal season is between August and November approximately.

Tapirs, jaguars, monkeys, capybaras, river dolphins, giant otters, deer, and turtles, are some of the most emblematic animals found within the park. But the number of registered species is even greater: 1,325 among fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals; 347 species of insects and 4,000 species of plants.

DAY 1:

At 7:00am, we will pick you up from your hotel or your home to take you to a track. We will arrive at the Flor de Oro camp after approximately 3 hours of flight. We keep flying for another 30 minutes and we’ll start to see that the lush green mantle is becoming denser, and after 60 minutes we will be in the virgin forest of the park.

Already over the park, we fly over the imposing Caparu plateau for approximately 40 minutes, closely observing the undulating shape of its topography with its different types of forests, while heading towards the “Arcoíris” and “Ahlfeld” waterfalls. We will fly at low altitude first over the “Rainbow” waterfall, giving it a turn at an angle where the photographs come out better.
After landing in Flor De Oro and meeting the staff that will make our visit pleasant, we settle into our rooms. Lunch at Flor De Oro and a short break.
Overnight at Flor de Oro Camp.

DAY 2:

Leaving after breakfast from Flor de Oro to the Ahlfeld Camp which is located near the waterfall with the same name. We start a beautiful day sailing in the waters of the Itenez River, for the first 2 hours approximately, and then for the Pauserna River for 3 hours. Total approximate time of 5 hours by boat– a journey in which we will have the opportunity to observe a great variety of birds such as different classes of kingfishers as well as different mammals such as capybaras; there are also possibilities to see the Jaguar on the river’s beaches, turning our trip into an unforgettable experience as we enjoy the infinity of nature. Arrival at Ahlfeld camp and accommodation in the rustic cabin that will serve as a base for our excursions. Hiking along a path covered by a very relaxing forest “tunnel”, this approximately 30-minute walk is towards the bottom of the Ahlfeld waterfall whose falling waters form a crystal clear lagoon. Here, we will have a special view of this famous but rarely visited waterfall, and we can even photograph it from different angles. Then we will return to Camp Ahlfeld to serve us dinner and prepare to rest and be ready for the next day. A short night walk is possible if the guests prefer, in coordination with the guide. Overnight at Camp Ahlfeld.

DAY 3:

After breakfast, we will leave by a different path, although also parallel to the Pauserna River towards the top of the Ahlfeld Waterfall. From where the waterfall begins to form, this view is more impressive for some, although the angle of observation is not as wide as from below the waterfall.

This first part of the walk is approximately 40 minutes, and we will take around 30 minutes to enjoy the place. Later, we will continue to move away from the camp along the same path and walk through different kinds of forests, and the path will turn slightly up towards the Rainbow waterfall. There are parts where this path becomes narrow with a stone wall on one side and, on the other, a fall of several meters towards the Pauserna River, you must walk very CAREFULLY. We will continue ascending the path in the jungle, which changes vegetation until we reach the Caparu Plateau where the high forest becomes a low forest. We walk about ½ hour more on the plateau until we reach a point from where you have a remote but spectacular view of the Rainbow Waterfall. It is here that we will serve ourselves some lunch sandwiches.

Returning to Camp Ahlfeld to rest and serve us dinner. We will serve dinner and we can rest, to get ready for our return the next day to Flor de Oro. Overnight at Camp Ahlfeld.

DAY 4:

Breakfast, and then if the guests prefer, we cross the Pauserna River by boat to enjoy another 30 meter high waterfall which forms other small falls with which it is possible to obtain excellent whirlpools baths for the whole body, very good before starting the return to Flor De Oro. The return trip is a little shorter than the arriving trip.
Arriving in Flor De Oro, lunch, and after a rest in our rooms, we will have a walk of approximately 2 hours on one of the trails around the camp. Overnight at Flor de Oro Camp.

DAY 5:

Before breakfast, walk very early, to be more in line with the movement of the wildlife of the place and thus have more possibilities of observing some bird or mammal and that we have not yet seen. This short walk will be on one of the trails that begins in the lodge and borders the Itenez River. If conditions allow, we will also have the option of changing the walk for a short ride on a slider through one of the bays near Flor de Oro, or combining both options.

We return to Flor De Oro for breakfast, and get our luggage ready to go back to Santa Cruz. Lunch, and after a short rest, return to Santa Cruz; they will be waiting for us next to the landing strip to take you to your hotel. END OF SERVICES.
